Literacy is not just an academic issue—it’s a life issue.

Too many children are falling behind in reading, not because they can’t learn, but because families have not been given the tools to support them.

At DREAMS KC, we believe:

  • Literacy is liberation

  • Parents are the first and most important teachers

Parent Literacy Trainings

How We Support Families

We teach parents exactly how to help their children read using proven, research-based methods.

Decodable Books

Our books are designed to help children practice reading skills in a structured, supportive way.

Community Literacy Experiences

From literacy hubs to decodable book walks, we bring literacy into the community.

We are building a “City of Readers”—one family at a time.

  • Parents Equipped

Parents are gaining the tools, knowledge, and confidence to actively support their child’s reading development at home. Through our partnerships with The Front Porch Alliance, WEB DuBois Learning Ctr., Ingels Elementary, and KCPS, we are building the skills of parents across the city.

  • Confident Readers in the Making

As we train parents and parents work with their children at home, children are building foundational literacy skills and growing in confidence as they begin to see themselves as capable readers.

A man and a boy are sitting at a table, engaging in a learning activity involving picture cards. The man is holding a card with a banana, and the boy is pointing at the card with a small stick. There are various papers, folders, and beverages on the table, with other children and adults in the background participating in activities.
  • Communities Activated

Schools, organizations, and families are coming together to create environments where literacy is supported, valued, and accessible. We have hosted Decodable Book Walks across the city and are excited to expand.

See it.

Children must practice the skills they are being taught. Decodable books provide the practice they need, in context. Early success builds confidence, increases the desire to practice, and leads to competence.
